It has been more than a month since CurrentTV journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee were detained by North Korean authorities on the China-North Korea border. Yet relatively little has been made public about what their status is as well as what the US government or their media corporation is doing to ensure their fast and safe release.  The following video entry explains the situation.

Welcome to Global Conspiracy, a blog for and about citizen journalists. The main goal of this site will be to present and discuss methods, ethics, and tips for citizen journalists, as well as highlight citizen journalism in action around the world.

The name “Global Conspiracy” is, of course, ironic. A single individual with a computer can spread a message wider and faster than the combined might of all pre-web media empires combined… without an allegiance to a media empire, political party, or secret cabal. If you’re reading this, using Blogger, Wordpress, LiveJournal, or a score of other free services, you can also join the “global conspiracy” of citizen journalists. Nobody can be excluded.

The varied backgrounds of our columnists and contributors should prove that while there is always a “better” way to conduct journalism, there is rarely a universally accepted best way. Anticipate debate, and feel free to participate in the conversation, including the ongoing debate over, “what is a citizen journalist?” which, I believe, is mostly settled with the following quote:

“The idea behind citizen journalism is that people without professional journalism training can use the tools of modern technology and the global distribution of the Internet to create, augment or fact-check media on their own or in collaboration with others.” -Mark Glaser, 9/27/06
